3001: The Final Odyssey

This is a short review of “3001: The Final Odyssey” by Arthur C. Clarke.

A few weeks ago I had a yearning to reread the Space Odyssey books by Arthur C. Clarke. Today I finished listening to the last book in the series, 3001: The Final Odyssey.

This fairly short book moves forward a thousand years from the first book to reintroduce Frank Poole, who had been killed by HAL 9000 in the first book. Frank’s body has been recovered from space and revived. Frank revisits Europa, the moon of Jupiter from which all humans are banned, where he is warned by the combined consciousness of Dave Bowman and HAL 9000 that the monolith is about to destroy humanity.

I did not find the ending credible, but there were some good ideas in the book. As usual, Clarke’s character development is non-existent.

My rating is 3/5 stars (good).
