Cambridge Porchfest

Porchfest in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is happening this weekend, July 11 and 12, 2026. Porchfest is an informal and free festival where musical groups, mostly amateur, play on the porches of houses. Porchfest is huge in Somerville, the city where I live just north of Cambridge, but Cambridge is still building its festival.

I saw two groups today; I copied the descriptions from the Porchfest website.

Ana Ospina

Readers of this blog will know that Ana Ospina is my cello teacher. Ana played duets with Geoffrey Edwards (her fiancé) and separately with her student Terri Liu. All three cellists are very good on their instruments. The two duets played a mix of classical musical and folk music from Colombia. The Colombian music contained percussive effects (from tapping on the body of the cello) and many tricky syncopations.
