Bicycle Tour: Cape Cod 2023, Day Four

I walked from Nickerson State Park into Orleans and explored the town on foot.

On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, I spent my fourth day at Nickerson State Park. (For the third day of this tour, see Cape Cod 2023, Day Three).

From 9:45 a.m. to 1:05 p.m., I explored Orleans on foot, walking 9.83 miles.

Orleans has surprisingly poor pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, making it difficult to walk or bicycle in town.

While walking, I came upon the IFAW Dolphin Rescue Center, which contains a cetacean intensive care unit.

I explored the 300-year-old windmill in Windmill Park.

Town Cove is located northeast of the rotary where State Routes 6A and 28 join U.S. Route 6 heading north.

I returned to Nickerson State Park by walking southwest along the Cape Cod Rail Trail.

From 2:10 p.m. to 4:15 p.m., I rode every bike trail and a few campground loops of the park for a total of 13.09 miles. There are two burial sites in the park.

In the evening, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., I walked campground loops for a total of 2.46 miles. I compiled a list of nice campsites I could choose from when making reservations for future visits.
