Camping: Cape Cod 2026, Day Two
Monday, September 21, 2026, was the second of five days of camping at Shawme-Crowell State Forest in Sandwich, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod.

Monday
I slept 11:30–5:00 with short interruptions. It rained periodically overnight, but stopped at about 7:00 a.m. I explored the campsites in the local loop. I made and ate breakfast (granola, muesli, and cocoa mix; and two cookies).
I put the pedals on my bike and straightened the handlebars. I rode all the loops in the campground, about five miles. There are some very steep (but short) hills where I used my lowest gear. My fitness is not what I wish.
It is now 9:30, and the rain has stopped for a couple of hours. The forecast predicts no rain until Friday.

3:15 p.m. bike ride, 14.12 mi exploring Sandwich along the canal and beach. Back at 5:15 p.m. Mostly sunny, 62 °F. Dinner was cookies, crackers, and string cheese.
I walked another mile after dinner to get warm. I put on Joan’s 2023 Fred Lebow Half Marathon hat.
The owl is hooting again.
In my sleeping bag at 7:20 p.m. I pulled back the rain fly because the sky is clear, with a first quarter moon low in the east. I slept 7:30–19:00 p.m.
