Bicycle Tour: Lorraine Campground, Day Two

I enjoyed hiking and relaxing at Lorraine Campground in Harold Parker Forest.

Thursday, August 28, 2025, was the second of three days I spent at Lorraine Campground in Harold Parker Forest. (For the first day of this short tour, see Lorraine Campground, Day One).

I slept 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. and 2:15 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. The temperature was a cool 53 °F at dawn. The damp from yesterday’s rain was annoying. The site was very shady, so I wasn’t sure I would be able to dry my tent.

Because of the moisture in the air, I could see drops of water falling from the trees in the sunlight, and there were some spectacular sunbeams.

I went for a short hike on the trails around the campground. Field Pond had quite a few geese. The road to the north of Field Pond, Harold Parker Road, was unfortunately not safe for walking, so I was unable to walk all the way around the pond.

I found the swimming area at Frye Pond, near the park entrance, but swimming was prohibited because of high bacteria count.

I wiped down the tent fly to help it dry. The temperature was 73 °F at noon, and my tent was dry by late afternoon.

I have a Pocket Rocket Mini Stove Kit. The pot nests into the plastic bowl when packing the kit, and the bowl is almost invisible. I knew when I first saw this that the day would come when I would forget to remove the plastic bowl before putting the pot on the burner. Well, today was the day.

My only riding today was to ride on the campground roads a couple of times for a total of three miles.
