I started over from scratch, essentially using the Couch to 5k plan, and it took me eight weeks to reach the 5k distance. A few weeks later I managed a six-mile run. I was experiencing some pain in my left knee, especially when climbing stairs, and I don’t like to run when I’m feeling pain.

On January 4, 2024, my wife and I adopted two dogs from the Pawtucket Rhode Island Animal Shelter. Suddenly I was walking a dog four times a day, occasionally for several miles at a time, and this was my excuse for not running as much as I had hoped.
