Running Summary March 2025

These are the miles I’ve logged from November 2, 2024, through March 31, 2025.

I had stopped running after August 24, 2024 because of a sore right Achilles tendon. After a little more than two months without running, I started running again on November 2. I was trying to increase my miles slowly but steadily without injuring myself. I ran the 4-mile Gobble, Gobble, Gobble race on Thursday, November 28 (Thanksgiving Day) with a good time except I was slow going up hills.

Running went well in December as I continued building a base, and I increased my long run to eight miles.

We experienced a typical New England winter in January and February, causing me to miss many days of running because of cold temperatures and accumulated snow and ice on roads and sidewalks. I increased my long run to eleven miles, but I finished only three long runs during these two months. My daily run reached five miles before I missed nine days in a row because of winter.

In March I completed a long run of twelve and a half miles. All but one of my normal runs were four to six miles long. Near the end of March I suddenly began running faster, reducing my time by 30 seconds per mile with no perceived increase in effort. In mid-March I began bicycling occasionally on non-running days, which was good cross-training but tiring for my legs.

In general, I have enough energy to either run or bicycle each day, although occasionally I need to take a rest day because my legs are tired. In April I plan to increase my bicycling and probably reduce my running, perhaps alternating running and bicycling days. I need to get into bicycle touring condition sufficient for riding a loaded bicycle about 45 miles in a day.
