Mike Block Trio at Club Passim
I streamed a set by the Mike Block Trio at Club Passim.
Tonight (April 2, 2026) I streamed a performance by the Mike Block Trio at Club Passim.
The ensemble is led by Mike Block on cello and vocals and includes Joe K. Walsh on mandolin and vocals and Zachariah Hickman playing the bass and singing. Tonight Joe F. Brent substituted more than capably for Joe K. Walsh.
The set included a tune that Mike said was based on the second bourĂ©e of J. S. Bachâs Cello Suite No. 4 and also a very nice tune by Joe F. Brent. The set finished with several tunes by Mike Block that were inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright; these were played without interruption, and the end result was very creative.
Unfortunately, there was a sound problem on the live feed where Mikeâs cello was not miked correctly, putting it in the background behind the sound of the double bass and the mandolin during the entire show. Club Passim also had some internet problems, with a poor live feed that reduced image and sound quality, with the feed dropping completely for a few minutes.
The trioâs latest album is What Now, issued in 2023.
Mike played a Forte3D cello with the âWooden Old Italian Celloâ top. The merchandise table included the Blockness Monster and Cellos nâ Cheese.
Zachariah Hickman is playing a show at Club Passim on April 24th.
