Reading Frankenstein

I have started reading the book “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley, following the “Marooned! on Mars with Matt and Hilary” podcast with Matt Hauske and Hilary Strang.

I am a fan of the novels of Kim Stanley Robinson, especially Robinson’s Mars Trilogy, which I have read several times. In 2018 I discovered the Marooned! on Mars with Matt and Hilary podcast and listened to the forty-some episodes as Matt Hauske and Hilary Strang analyzed the three books. I have since continued to listen to the podcast as Matt and Hilary have read other books by Kim Stanley Robinson.

For the sake of change, Matt and Hilary decided to read and analyze Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, focusing on the original 1818 edition. Two podcast episodes of this new series are now available. This is a link to the introductory episode:

Following Matt and Hilary’s recommendation, I ordered the broadview editions Franksteinstein, third edition, edited by D. L. Macdonald and Kathleen Scherf. According to the cover, this edition is intended “for the general reader and student as much as for the scholar.” The edition includes nine appendices containing associated documents and notes.

So, I need to read the first chapter of the book before listening to the second episode of the podcast.
